SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION Community Technology Coordinator (January 2000-April 2002) To pursue two-way electronic connectivity between communities in the Western Hemisphere and the Museum for the purpose of cooperative sharing of information and support for education utilizing the resources of the Smithsonian. Also, support for the development of a virtual museum. Other roles included assisting technology planning at existing museum facilities in New York and Maryland plus the major mall site of the National Museum of the American Indian now under construction near the U.S. Capitol scheduled for completion at the end of 2004. |

Technology (1999-2005) Following a national search, selected as the very first recruited academic appointment to California new university at Monterey Bay by a statewide committee chaired by a member of the statewide academic senate. This new hi-tech university was planned by representatives of many institutions and encompasses the latest in communication and information technology. It is the result of the largest military conversion in the country (Fort Ord). Began work at Monterey Bay in September 1994. On Labor Day, 1995 President Clinton opened the University. As Asst. to the President and Special Consultant was responsible for development and entrepreneurial efforts. Specifically, (1) work with outside agencies/ industry/organizations to seek collaborative relationships leading to innovative educational and research programs for the University. (2) assist in improving efforts in language learning and use of multimedia. (3) seek to meet educational needs of Native Americans, (4) explore technological aspects of international activities. As dean was responsible for instruction in the sciences and technology plus all campus information technology (library, computing, telecommunications, and media). Of the new campus' 5 centers, this center was the largest, representing nearly half the faculty and over half the student enrollments. Created and named both the Center for Science, Technology, and Information Resources and the following institutes at the new university:

The Ely S. Parker Medal. This medal is the American Indian Science and Engineering Society's highest award. It is given each year to one scientist or engineer in recognition of lifetime achievement in his or her profession and service to the American Indian Community. Awarded November 2000 at dinner attended by over 2000 from universities, major corporations, research institutes, etc. nationwide. Monterey Bay Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, Trade Unionist of the Year, awarded October 2002. Ed Asner, former head, Screen Actors Guild, was dinner keynote speaker. Monterey Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, Union Member of the Year Award, awarded October 2000. California State Legislature Speaker of the Assembly, Fred Keeley spoke. Stanford University, "for his service to Native Americans in the field of technology," October 1995. On the 25th anniversary of the Stanford University American Indian Alumni Association was granted the first award the association had ever given. American Indian Library Association, for "outstanding leadership in library services for American Indian People and founding the American Indian Library Association," June 1994 (on the association's 15th anniversary). 1. Vice Provost For Information Resources and Professor (tenured in Computer Science), California State University, Chico. (11.7 years) (Feb.1983-Oct.1994) (Visiting Scholar, Stanford University, Center for the Study of Language and Information.calendar year 1993) Overall director of Computing Services, Telecommunications, Library, Instructional Media Center (AV, TV production, distance education network operation), and Institutional Research. Information Resources (IR) at CSU, Chico was widely regarded as a leader in information technology innovation in California. Library was first in California with a complete computerized online catalog to a university collection. It was the primary development site for the CLSI online catalog system. The Media Center was the largest in the state university system, with multiple satellite-uplinks, an extensive microwave network, and quality TV production facilities. IR at Chico became a national model for integration of information services. The organization won national recognition in several areas. The Computer Center newsletter, Access, won the Association for Computing Machinery's 1st and 2nd place outstanding newsletter of the year awards plus two other 1st and 2nd place awards in graphics and technical writing. The Media Center twice received International Teleconferencing Association awards, AECT Exemplary Media Center Award, four National Educational Film Festival first place awards, Best of West Awards, a gold Cindy for commercial video, a JVC first place award, and national recognition for distance learning. The Center operated a network of interactive TV classes to over 40 remote learning sites nationwide (IBM, Texas Instruments, Hewlett-Packard, Alcoa, Pacific Telesis, Lawrence Livermore Labs, General Electric, NASA and military installations). 2. Associate Library Director (Acting Library Director for 2 years), Sonoma State University. Also Visiting Lecturer in Native American Studies. (8.6 years) While acting director worked with architect and contractors to double the size of the library building. 3. Director, Center for Communication and Information Research, University of Denver, and ASST. PROFESSOR of Librarianship. (2 years) Developed the Satellite Library Information Network (SALINET), the first space satellite library network. Taught research methods and administration. 4.
